Marcy's Style
What is Marcy's Style? Hmmm that is hard one to answer. It can range from something as delightful as a cold and creamy panna cotta with a tiny dollop lime curd and fan sliced strawberry to finish it off to Spam fried rice. This wide range of culinary tastes results from Marcy having lived in two distinct worlds. Born in Juneau, Alaska and also having grown up in New York on Long Island, I have enjoyed the wide array of tastes each offers and shares with you some of each.
I am excited to share my online store with some "must have" appliances, cookware and tools I can't live without! I also link grocery items that are sometimes hard to find, or are great deals! If you had to define my style it is really hard to put your finger on. I have spent my whole life making food for my loved ones. One thing I can easily say is that my family and friends always tell me is that it just tastes better when I make it. I am sure that the extra ingredient is love. You must love what you are doing. If you love the people you are cooking for and want to make great meals, make sure that the energy you transfer to the food is full of the love and energy you feel for them. It really does make a difference. It's that little something else that makes your meals just taste--better. |
About me
I am a happy mother of three. I have three all near adult children. My youngest is 16. My two daughters are 19 and 20 (almost 21). I had the good fortune of marrying my husband Mark. We are probably the most hard-headed, stubborn people on the planet at times. But the good news is we can stand each other! That's really good! We also love each other immensely. For all our flaws, faults and disagreements, we love each other so very much. So many of the cooking items in my kitchen are gifts from my husband. He is completely spoiled. He works on the North Slope. They have cafeteria style food and while some are so pleased with the food there, he just shakes his head and says "if you want good food, you need to go to my house." He is and always will be spoiled by my cooking, for as long as I shall live. I have come to learn that my children are just spoiled by default. They grew up eating nothing but my cooking. One of the reasons I am doing this is so that I can document some of my recipes for them. Sure there are some "secret" family recipes that will be just for them. They will be passed on to them to guard and keep and pass on to their children. But the rest, well this is my new restaurant. And you---dear reader are my new chefs. Welcome to the kitchen, let's get started.
For those of you who don't know me very well. I have been struggling with an autoimmune disease that has kicked my behind pretty well for a number of years. I also have had 2 cervical spinal surgeries in the since January 2014. A few months after my first surgery I fell and gave myself a pretty good concussion. After this past surgery in April 2015 I had a month long bout of bronchitis that delayed the healing process greatly. I am however finally slowly healing. I am probably going to have some pain levels to some degree, but thanks to an amazing doctor, a fabulous team of doctors, actually I am able to work on living a much better life than I was before.
Living in chronic pain can really sap the enjoyment out of things. One of the things I truly love to do is cook. I had dreamed of having a restaurant some day. I think that is something that I would have to just dream of (the actual physical part of doing it would probably put me under!) but I can share great food ideas and recipes with people. I can take pictures, show things step by step and help people make some amazing food, here in my blog.
I find that even on my worst days, my family, in particular my husband when he is home, help me pull off some spectacular dishes. It is one of those things that I feel triumphant in. Even when every fiber of my being is hollering in pain---I can make a batch of homemade gnocchi and feel accomplished. "I did it. This darn thing didn't beat me today!" A motto of mine has always been, "Always late, but worth the wait"

So here I am, starting a venture that I feel is doable. Something I can do on my time, on my terms. I hope you enjoy it. I hope you share it. I hope you shop in the store. Best of all. I hope...
some photos of meals I have created
Sure they are not the best photos. But here are some pictures I have taken over the past few years. If you see one, please comment on a blog post and ask me to share the recipe for the photo. I am excited to get started!
